António Couto dos Santos, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Former Education Minister of Portugal

António Couto dos Santos was a Portuguese politician and former Minister several times. He has held several offices in Portuguese governments. His higher education took place in Lisbon, and he has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Higher Technical Institute of the Lisbon Technical University. He was assistant to Environment Minister (1983-1985),  Secretary of State for Youth (1985-1987), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth and with Media portfolio (1987-1991), Minister of Parliamentary Affairs (1991-1992) and Minister of Education  (1992-1995). He was a Member of Parliament; between 1987 and 1991 and from 2009 to 2015. Between 2011 and 2015 he was Chairman of the Board of Administration of the Portuguese Parliament and Chairman of Wealth Parliamentary Committee. Between 2010 and 2015 he was President of Parliamentary Friendship Group Portugal Russia. As well as his work as a businessman, and among other positions, Couto dos Santos, ha has been CEO of Portuguese Business Association (AEP), (1995-2007), Chairman of the General Assembly of a Media Group,  among many other management positions in organisations in a wide range of fields, such CEO of the Casa da Música, in Oporto, member of the Board of Administration of the Hospital Amadora-Sintra, and member of the boards of administration of several companies in the areas of environment, energy and Construction. Now is Consultant in some areas of business: environment, Health, renewable energy and several companies companies. He is vice president of APD Portugal, a business association of CEO’s and Directors of companies.
